One thing in life remains constant and that’s change.
With Nashville becoming “the IT city,” you may find yourself new to Music City USA or a surrounding county. While it’s exciting to live in a popular city, a move and life transition can be difficult.
“How do I get plugged in?”
“How do I find a supportive community for me and/or my family?”
“How do I rebuild my life?”
It can be daunting and downright scary at times.
Navigating Change
People turn to counseling for a number of reasons and at different stages in life.
Life transition is a broad definition that includes more than a move to a new city or career change.
You’re not alone and counseling can help.
Did you know that life transition is both tangible and intangible?
There are 43 tangible life transitions that include, but are not limited to, divorce, retirement, moving, career, pet loss, loss of health, empty nest, starting school, and financial change.
Some intangible examples include, but are not limited to, loss of trust, loss of safety, loss of fertility, and loss of faith.
Reduced concentration, a sense of numbness, disrupted sleeping patterns, a change in eating habits, and roller coaster of emotional energy are typical responses associated with transition.
All Life Transition Brings With it a Sense of Loss
Even in the happiest of occasions, change brings a sense of loss.
For example, perhaps you’re a recent college graduate and while a joyous life event, you’re no longer a daily part of your cohort. You may find yourself experiencing feelings of joy and sadness at the same time.
That’s okay. That is grief.
Grief is conflicting feelings caused by the end of, or change in, a familiar pattern of behavior.
Sounds a lot like transition, doesn’t it?
